Lake City in the North of Seattle is comprised of 5 different neighbourhoods and sits to the West of Lake Washington. Before 1906 the area was simple called “Lake” until D.H. and R.H. Lee bought the land and added “City” to the name. In the past the area has been known for its many used car lots, but recent regeneration means the area now has much more to offer as well as plenty of new condos for families looking to move into the Lake City community.
Cedar Park
This residential area on the shores of Lake Washington contains the Cedar Park Elementary school, the old playground of which has been turned into a local playground called “Cedar Park”. Running through this park is part of the 27-mile Burke-Gilman Trail.
Matthews Beach
As the name suggests, this area is also situated on the edge of the Lake. The local park has been rehabilitated in recent years and now includes many picnic tables, a swimming beach and plenty of lush greenery.
Meadowbrooke
Meadowbrooke swimming pool, a large community centre and the Nathan Hale High School are amenities of this neighbourhood surrounded by open fields. With a lack of big businesses this area has a relaxed feel and is almost entirely residential save for a few local shops.
Olympic Hills
Boasting polo fields and golf courses, surrounded by picturesque rolling hills, this neighbourhood is buzzing with activity. They hold an annual salmon barbecue, or if this isn’t your scene, the Historic Lake City Library is situated behind the Albert Davis Park.
Victory Heights
Named after the Victory Highway, this is a small neighbourhood in Seattle that includes the Victory Heights play area.
Throughout the Lake City area there are 6 schools, 18 restaurants, over 25 shops and several businesses for your nightlife needs. The open expanses have multiple parks with good travel links this area is suited to those who enjoy an outdoor lifestyle, whether you want to hike through forests or swim on freshwater beaches.
